CoCo partners gathered in Rome to work in the pastorlists’ survey in an intense two-day workshop. The workshop was organised by the Italian partners IEA and the University of Turin and the Spanish partner CITA.
The CoCo team refined the upcoming survey of 1,000 pastoralists across 12 European countries, on livestock management practices and pastoralist’s relationship with wildlife. This survey is an important step in understanding the realities of pastoralism, including the challenges and opportunities, both positive and negative, presented by wildlife interactions. By capturing first-hand experience in a wide variety of pastoral systems, we aim to inform policies and practices that support sustainable coexistence.
During the two weeks following the workshop, the survey was piloted in the field with more than 30 pastoralists in 9 countries, to ensure that the questions capture the realities on the ground before the official launch in spring 2025.
